Evaluations

An assistive technology device is defined as any piece of equipment used by a person with a disability in order to work, play, communicate, learn or do any activity that their disability hinders or prevents.

For every limitation, many choices are available in terms of assistive technology devices. Part of the goal of our Assistive Technology Services is to help individuals find the device that will best suit their specific needs. Some factors that must be considered are where and for what purpose the device will primarily be used, portability, running time for battery-operated devices, etc.

The Assistive Technology Professional can help individuals obtain devices through the Pennsylvania Asssitive Technology Lending Library to try out. If a device doesn't work out, it can be returned and another one borrowed.

When you find the device that works for you, our Assistive Technology specialist is here to help you set it up and learn to use it.

Trainings

The trainings provided by UCP of NEPA's Assistive Technology Services are designed to help individuals who use assistive technology, as well as their caregivers, to increase their skills on devices.

Training sessions are conducted in the home, school, workplace, wherever the individual will typically use the device. The goal of this service is to help the individual become familiar and comfortable with using the device and to address any problems.
